Ok, so this is really a personal blog. But, as I said in my last post, I am getting a little obsessed with the "how-to's" of blogging. My guess is that you won't find my blog in a search engine yet, but hopefully one day you will! Since I have some other fledgling bloggers following me, I thought I would share some of the tips I am learning.
Most of my advice is directly for blogspot blogs, but the basics apply to most platforms and even regular websites.
If you have a blog, you need Google Analytics. Yes, really, you NEED it! It is free, easy and if you are a bit strange like me, lots of fun.
Here is how you get it- if you use blogspot or have a gmail account, this will only take a couple of minutes.
www.google.com/analytics
After you sign in, click on "Create New Website Profile"
Wait! Don't go yet, you are almost done!! There are only three things you need here.
Ok, here is the tricky part. Come on, you made it this far, you can do it!
Next, Google will give you a piece of scary looking code.
Copy it and then go into your blog. Click on the "Layout" tab and the on "Edit HTML"
Scroll ALL the way to the bottom of the html, and paste the google code right before it says /body - there is a "less-than" symbol before the /body, but I can't get it to show up here! I'll make a graphic of it soon.
Click "Save Template" and you are done!
Here is a page from Google that will walk you through if you need more details.
Next time I am in a techie mode I will show you some cool things you can do in Analytics and how to get your blog found in search engines :)
